RULES. [02 Feb 2009 @ 4:16am]
- - - GAME BASICS - - -

SO HOW DOES THIS WORK.

The game starts with anywhere from 10 to 15 players, 2-3 of whom are the “wolves” (in this case, “zombies”) while the rest are human. The wolves know who each other are, but the humans know nothing about who is who. Every ‘night’ the wolves decide together on a human to kill. After, in the ‘day,’ everyone (humans and wolves together) decide on someone to kill, wolves hoping a human is chosen, humans hoping they managed to choose a wolf. The game ends when either all the wolves have been killed, or when the number of wolves is equal to the number of humans.

Basically, the game depends entirely on blind voting, and is for the most part a game of chance and luck. Who people decide to vote for varies from person to person, as everyone will think up their own suspicions/theories/strategies. The wolves are trying to stick together in secret, and the humans are trying to figure out which among them is lying about being human.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHO PLAYS WHAT ROLE.

Randomly. Like, names out of a hat sort of random. I’ll PM you if you’re a wolf (zombie). If you do not get a PM, assume you’re human. DO NOT TELL ANYONE WHAT ROLE YOU HAVE, as that completely defeats the game’s purpose. For all intents and purposes, everyone acts as if they’re human.

CAN WE DISCUSS OUTSIDE OF THE GAME.

There should not be any discussuions outside of the game.

If, however, there are, please post the conversation (change SNs to UNs or player names to clarify) in a comment to the most recent/relevant post. If the wolves discuss outside of their filtered post, they would post the conversation in a comment to the filtered post.

HOW DO WE VOTE IF WE DON’T KNOW WHO EVERYONE IS, THOUGH.

What would be the point of trying to figure out who’s trying to kill you if you already knew? What you do is guess, theorize, analyze, try to figure out who’s lying and who’s trying to point fingers. Look at every comment like it could be a wolf. Trust no one. The first day killing will likely just be some random vote, but watch carefully after that. Look for clues, patterns, anything.

The humans are trying to figure out who's a wolf; the wolves are pretending to be humans and trying to accuse humans of being wolves. The only information humans have are what the other players say. Accusing someone of being a wolf is suspicious. Not accusing anyone is suspicious. Agreeing with another player is suspicious, and so is pretending not to agree with another player. Never voting to kill a particular player is very suspicious for both of them.

SO-AND-SO NEVER VOTED, WHAT HAPPENS.

It's not the end of the world. Voting begins the second the scene is posted, and lasts until the posted times. If a player doesn't vote once, the person with the most votes is still killed. If the player doesn't vote twice, the day's votes become invalid, and the player who didn't vote is sacrificed instead. This is to keep the game flowing, and to make sure no one underdogs their way through to the finish.

HOW DO THE WOLVES DECIDE WHO TO KILL WITHOUT THE OTHERS KNOWING.

Through a filtered entry just for them and the Host. Wolves can communicate 24/7 in their filter if they feel the need to, whether to discuss who to pick next or to sit back and laugh at the way the humans are voting.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE “DAY” AND “NIGHT” AND HOW LONG DO THEY LAST.

NIGHT: During the night, the wolves choose who they want to kill (and the Seer asks for information). Once they've decided, the Host writes the appropriate night scene.

DAY: During the day, everyone discusses and votes on who to get rid of. Once they've decided, the Host writes the appropriate day scene.

Essentially, a game could last three or more real-time days, depending on which way the game goes, and whether or not the wolves are the first to be killed off or not. Because of the online version of this game, writing is a large factor for the Host, and they’ll need a few hours to write up a day/night scene, but this shouldn’t create a problem time-wise.

SO THE HOST IS WRITING THESE EPIC SCENES; DO I LOOK FOR CLUES IN THE STORIES?

No. Absolutely not. Don’t even try it. The Host is only writing the scenes for your entertainment, because it would be boring and far too quick to just have a game where you vote and die and vote and die and there’s nothing of sustenance, don’t you think? Do not take anything in the stories to heart, do not try to read between the lines, do not point fingers just because the Host wrote someone with a suspicious personality and someone else as a wuss.

Also, don’t assume that the Host is picking on you if your “character” in the scene has a personality completely opposite you in real life. The Host has done nothing more than take names and write with them.

ARE THERE ROLES OTHER THAN WOLF/HUMAN.

Yes, in some games. In other games, there’s one person who plays what’s called a “Seer” (in this case, “assistant” — but this role won’t be included until a later game) who can ask the Host each ‘night’ the role of another player. During the ‘day’ the Seer may try to share their knowledge with the other humans, but the choice is entirely of their own discretion.

If you tell everyone you’re the Seer, you risk not being believed, being chosen by the wolves as their next victim, or being killed by the group because they think you’re a lying wolf. Your best bet is to just try to be sneaky about pointing fingers, and just sit back and hope people agree with you.

I WAS KILLED. NOW WHAT.

Sucks, hey? Well, you’re out of the game, that’s about it, but you’re still part of the game so keep your mouth shut. And keep watching, if you’re interested. Don’t you want to know (if you were a wrongfully eliminated human, that is) who the real wolves are? Stick around, comment if you really want to, but definitely don’t tell anyone what role you had. Dead or alive, everyone is still assumed human.

I DIDN'T SIGN UP TO PLAY, BUT I WANT TO WATCH.

Just comment and tell me so, then. You'll be friended to read the scenes. If you want to comment on the scenes, just put "SPECTATOR" in the subject, so the players don't get confused.

WHY ZOMBIES.

Because I was tired of seeing every other game use Mafia or Werewolves.

WHO'S CASPAR HEIDRICH. AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS HAND.

A fuckcrazy mad scientist that I created. He's my own original character, so please don't use him if you happen to begin your own game. As for his hand. Well. He does work with flesh eating monsters.

THESE AREN'T REALLY ZOMBIES, Y'KNOW. THEY'RE MORE LIKE CANNIBALS.

But where's the fun in cannibals? And aside from the undead gig, zombies are simply defined as beings who lack the ability for conscious, logical interaction. All they want to do is tear you apart and eat you. Heidrich's zombies indeed aren't zombies, he's not entirely sure what they are, but since the general consensus cries zombie, that's what we'll go with.

YOU DO REALIZE YOUR LOGIC AND HALFASSED SCIENCE-FICTION ATTEMPT HAS A MILLION PLOT HOLES.

It's a game, on the internet, involving zombies, and you're all going to die. Are you really going to get that stuck up about whether or not I used synapse properly in a sentence, or why no one can tell easily via bloodstains and death-breath who's infected? Make up whatever theories that you want about why no one notices who's who. I wasn't trying to make this some epic novel, I just wanted to give you something interesting to read while you played!

HOW OFTEN ARE YOU GOING TO START GAMES.

That depends on how well they go, and if I have the time. I'd love to be able to do one every month or so if enough people are interested, because it's a fun thing to bring people together and I'm a sucker for writing about bodies being torn apart.

WILL EVERY GAME INVOLVE THIS SAME PLOT.

Most of them, yes. Because there may be some people who want to play who don't enjoy the plot of zombies, though, there may be a few special games time to time that replace zombies with the typical werewolves and such. I'm sure Heidrich's been messing around with things like that as well.

DO I HAVE TO FRIEND THE JOURNAL / WILL YOU REMOVE MY JOURNAL FROM THE FLIST WHEN THE GAME ENDS.

You don't have to friend the journal if you don't want to (but rest assured I won't use this journal to read your flocked entries), but it would be easier to catch the updates if they were right there on your flist for you. When a game ends, I'll remove the journals from the flist so that the next game can begin without there being 23984+ journals friended and causing confusion.

I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS.

Please feel free to leave a comment or PM, then! ♥
